Roof of Australia

LTDLRR-047

Standing at 2228 meters above sea level, Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak inspires our admiration and respect.  All year round snowcaps lace Kosciuszko and the surrounding mountain ranges that stretch out before you as far as your eye can see.  From its peak, the altitude takes your breath away literally if the view doesn’t take it first.

During winter months the weather can turn rapidly with snowstorm fury leaving no chance of survival for the unsuspecting cross-country skier or hiker.   Nestled just below Kosciuszko’s peak on Eltheridge Range is a refuge and shelter from snowstorm events, Seaman’s Hut was built in 1929 as a lasting monument for an adventurous son and his friend who perished and now stands permanently as a token to others.

Symbolic of his parents love, made of stone the alpine hut is stocked all year round with an abundant stack of wood for it’s fireplace lasting for days, providing protection, shelter and warmth for those caught out in the snowstorms of Kosciuzsko life.
